Moxey’s class and quality will be remembered with real fondness
-
T'S a shame that the 'Deano, Deano, Deano' chat won't be heard at Plainmoor again, after 39-year-old Mr Moxey left the club this week after becoming one of those rare things: a hero at Torquay United after joining from Exeter City.
In his five years at Plainmoor, the ex-Premier League defender was a crucial player for Gary Johnson, and a coach, sounding-board, and back-up defender for Paul Wotton in his first season.
The sight of Deano running up and down the left hand of the field at Hemel Hempstead Town, when Torquay won there 4-1 as they tried to beat Truro City’s goal-difference and win automatic promotion, was something wonderful. Not so much a spring chicken, but Moxey looked back to his best - for one last time.
He did come on during the Boreham Wood play-off game, but that breathless performance at Hemel was his real swansong - and real goodbye and thanks very much.
Moxey was one of four players released by Paul Wotton on Friday. Omar Mussa, Ozzy Zanzala and Brad Ash were the others.
