Kerala opposes tax on lottery

Kerala, which heavily relies on revenue from the alcohol and lottery sectors, feels the impact of prohibitively high taxes on “sin goods.”
On Wednesday, India's Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council imposed a 40 per cent levy on sin goods such as gambling, tobacco, aerated drinks, and luxury vehicles.
Sin goods are typically high-end or unhealthy products that are heavily taxed to generate revenue and discourage consumption.
