Dubai Civil Court has ordered two doctors and two nurses working for a private hospital to pay Dhs200,000 in compensation to the parents of a foetus who died inside the mother's womb during childbirth due to a severe medical error.

- Mohammed Yaseen, Staff Reporter

The court also obliged them to pay a 5% legal interest from the date the judgment becomes final until full payment, in addition to fees and expenses.

The case dates back to when an Arab husband and wife fled a lawsuit demanding Dhs499,000 in compensation for the physical and psychological harm suffered by the wife due to the loss of her foetus, as well as the moral damage incurred by the husband from losing his child.

The wife had reportedly been receiving prenatal care at the hospital under the supervision of two doctors and two nurses, who neglected to monitor the foetal heart rate and failed to address danger signs, leading to the foetus's death in utero.
