Court acquits Asian woman of bringing narcotics

The Dubai Court of Appeal has acquitted a 36-year-old Asian woman of charges related to importing narcotic substances, overturning a first-instance court ruling that had sentenced her to 10 years in jail, followed by deportation, and a fine of Dhs100,000.

The woman was initially convicted of bringing 20 electronic cigarettes containing suspected narcotic oil in her baggage through Dubai Airport in December 2024.

The case dates back to when a female inspector at the airport suspected the woman's baggage during screening. When asked if she was carrying any prohibited items, the woman denied possessing anything illegal.

Upon inspecting the bag, electronic cigarettes were found, which a forensic lab report confirmed contained oil mixed with narcotic substances, while tests confirmed that the woman was not a drug abuser.
