Stealth frigate INS Tamal set to join navy

ALIGNED WITH 'MAKE IN INDIA' GOALS, IT WILL JOIN THE WESTERN FLEET

The Indian Navy is set to commission its latest stealth multi-role frigate, INS Tamal, on July 1 at the Yantar Shipyard in Kaliningrad, Russia, marking a major milestone in India's naval modernisation programme.

The ceremony will be presided over by Vice Admiral Sanjay J. Singh, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, and will see the participation of senior Indian and Russian government and defence officials.

Tamal is the eighth Krivak-class frigate to be inducted by India from Russia over the past two decades, and the second ship of the Tushil class an up-graded version of the Talwar and Teg classes. The vessel has been constructed in collaboration with Indian naval specialists and the Severnoye Design Bureau of Russia, with a focus on increasing indigenous content.
