President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday ran for about one hour and 48 minutes, making it the longest speech delivered before a joint session of Congress in at least six decades, according to the American Presidency Project, which has tracked such addresses since 1964.

The speech surpassed the record Trump set last year, when he spoke for one hour and 39 minutes. That address, delivered in the first year of his second nonconsecutive term, was not formally classified as a State of the Union. Prior to Trump's two speeches, the modern record belonged to former President Bill Clinton, whose 2000 State of the Union lasted one hour and 28 minutes.

At the other end of the spectrum, the shortest State of the Union of the past 60 years was delivered by former President Richard Nixon in 1972. His address lasted just 28 minutes, according to the American Presidency Project.
