Car crash: Grieving friends say Amr was a 'gem of a person'

Rick tributes paid to 29-year-old resident at condolence meet and on social media

Friends of Amr Hesham, the 29-year-old Sharjah resident who was killed in a car crash in Dubai early on Saturday, paid heartfelt tributes to a man they described as a “gem of a person”.

The tragedy echoed the Egyptian family’s earlier loss when Amr’s younger brother and only sibling, Kareem Hesham, died in a car accident in 2014 at the age of 14.

Born and raised in the UAE, Amr was laid to rest next to his brother in Sharjah on Sunday. His parents, who were both hospitalised after falling ill from grief, were discharged later, but the father felt weak after attending a condolence meeting on Tuesday and had to be hospitalised again.

Dozens of Amr’s friends attended the condolence meeting. Many shared warm memories about him at the gathering and on social media.
