MORE THAN 1,000 TAKE PART IN RACE FOR LIFE FUNDRAISER

- By PETER CRAIG

Stepping up for charity

MORE than 1,000 runners braved warm conditions to take on the 2026 Run For Life in Louth in aid of Cancer Research UK.

The organisers celebrated reaching their £1-million target earlier this year after two decades of fundraising.

Participants were cheered by the hundreds of supporters who lined the streets of Louth to support the worthy cause.

The Mayor of Louth, Councillor Karen Parsons, was joined by her husband James to officially start the Men’s and Women’s 5k runs and the under 12s one kilometre run.

The mayor said: “It is wonderful to see Louth full of vibrance and full of people. The runners of all ages are amazing.

“We all give a big thank you to the organisers and volunteers for the amount they have raised. It is £1-million for Cancer Research. Let's make it £2-million”

First runner back after the under 12s race was Ollie Ireland in two minutes 48 seconds. He received the Toni Cummings memorial trophy from her daughter Kathryn Axton. Toni was one of the organisers of the event over many years until she sadly died two years ago.
