OAP sentenced to 22 years in jail for sexual offences against three children

A GRIMSBY man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison having been found guilty of a series of non-recent sexual offences against three children.

Edward Sheriff was sentenced at Grimsby Crown Court following a seven day trial in which the jury returned a guilty verdict on all offences.

Sheriff, of Wainfleet Road, was found guilty of rape of a child under 13, four counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 13, two counts of sexual assault of a child under the age of 16, eight counts of indecent assault, three counts of gross indecency assault and exposure.

An investigation into the 77-year-old was launched in 2022 after he came to the attention of Humberside Police officers following a report that three people had come forward to say they were subjected to sexual abuse.

Following his arrest in June 2022, Sheriff was interviewed by detectives. Humberside Police said he denied having any sexual interests in children.
