PROJECT IS CURRENTLY ON TIME AND ON BUDGET, SAYS COUNCIL LEADER

- By IVAN MORRIS POXTON

THE leader of North East Lincolnshire Council believes there is “an increased level of positivity” among the public about Grimsby town centre.

Cllr Philip Jackson (Conservative - Waltham Ward) made the remarks at the council cabinet's latest live Q&A event.

He confirmed the Freshney Place leisure scheme, which involves the demolition and recreation of the western end of the shopping centre into a five-screen cinema, new market hall, and other leisure outlets, is “currently on time and on budget”.

The redevelopment has a £49.96m budget and its completion is due in January to March 2027.

Cllr Jackson also teased further restaurants’ interest in the future redeveloped western end. “I can’t really mention the names of those at this particular point because we're still going through the legal process with those,” he stated. So far, Nando’s, the return of Starbucks and Parkway Cinema are linked as potential and confirmed tenants in the redeveloped western end of Freshney Place.
