What school didn't mean to teach me

When I chose my subjects, I thought I was choosing a future.

Periods on a timetable.

Things I could study, memorise, survive.

I didn't know

I was signing up to learn how to love

and how to lose it.

Physics spoke first -

not in feelings,

but in distance.

There's an idea called quantum entanglement:

two particles, once connected,

remain reactive to each other

no matter how far apart they are.

No touching.

No speaking.

Still responding.

And suddenly I understood

why absence doesn't mean gone,

why distance doesn't mean disconnected,

why something can end

and still echo.

Biology followed quietly after, working beneath the surface.

Heart rates rising for no reason.

Hands shaking when nothing is wrong.

A body reacting before the mind catches up.

It turns out

you don't decide when to feel.
