Timsbury toppled after disappointing weekend for all threesides
Frome Standard
|July 03, 2025
It proved a disappointing weekend for Timsbury with all three teams suffering defeats in the Bristol & District League.
-
The first team’s position at the top of Division One lasted just one week following a seven-wicket defeat at Whitchurch. Mark Sage and Ben Hosford gave the visitors a solid start with an opening stand of 51 but, thereafter, wickets fell at regular intervals.
Paul Cracknell was looking comfortable until he ran himself out for 30, before the innings faltered to 157.
Timsbury then found it difficult to make significant breakthroughs with the ball. Despite only taking three wickets, they fought to the end until Whitchurch finally got over the line in the last over.
The second side were beaten by 33 runs at home to Bath 4th in Division Six and it was former member Dave Pippett, who was in the Timsbury side that reached Lords in 2006 and now captains Bath, who inflicted the major damage.
With an outstanding knock of 101, Bath reached 212-4 from their 40 overs.
Early knocks of 28 from Josh Tucker and 27 from Ollie Davis gave Timsbury a good start, but a clatter of wickets saw them decline to 97-6.
A fine stand of 76 between George Webb (50) and Dan Nesbitt (38) revived their hopes, with the game finely in the balance at 173-6.
Nesbitt and Webb then departed in quick succession before Timsbury were dismissed for 179.
It was another difficult afternoon for the third team, who were beaten by ten wickets at home to Old Park in Division Nine East. No Timsbury player managed double figures as they were shot out for 50, and the visitors managed to cruise home.
CHILCOMPTON SPORTS have ended June with back to back defeats in Division Four.
Hosting Carsons & Mangotsfield, Chili elected to bat but soon found themselves in trouble on 50-5.
