Minister heads to the West to hear farmers' concerns

Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee chair Alistair Carmichael MP has visited Somerset to hear directly from local farmers about the realities of sustainable agriculture and the growing strain of new government regulations.

The Liberal Democrat MP for Orkney and Shetland joined Anna Sabine, MP for Frome and East Somerset, on a weekend tour of Landmark Farm in Wanstrow, owned by the Mounty family.

The visit was aimed at giving Mr Carmichael, who oversees parliamentary scrutiny of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), a closer look at how rural communities are adapting to environmental and economic pressures.
