Celebrating the county's finest

There were three days of watching wonderful livestock, some of the best in the country, with many on show again at the Royal Cornwall this week.

There were no less than five beef breed champions from local herds.

The Aberdeen Angus breed champion and reserve was won by Angus Neish, from Maiden Bradley, near Frome, with his heifer Rodmead Tilda, with another of his heifers Rodmead Pam standing in reserve. He also won Aberdeen Angus Male champion with Rodmead Juggernaut Eric

The breed and reserve champion prizes were won by Will Glover, of Yeovil, with his Caylers Umbrella and in reserve Starlight Vendetta, which also won the best exhibitor bred prize.

The British Limousin breed champion and reserve came from HG Perkins, of Radstock - his heifer Calogale Umbria was champion and Hollowdene Ulay took the reserve prize. They also won female champion and reserve, best maiden heifer and best exhibitor bred British Limousin.

The British Blue breed championship was won by John and Yvonne Hopkins, from Brent Knoll, with their British Blue heifer Delhorn Up Town Girl. This heifer also won the female championship and exhibitor bred British Blue.

In the Hereford breed, the championship was won by William Awan, from Midford, near Bath with his heifer Midford 1 Elke, which also won the female championship and best exhibitor bred championship.

The dairy cattle were of an equal quality to the beef breeds.

Richard Norman, of Marston Magna, won the breed championship for the Guernsey with Emma Eve Brogdon Peggy.
