PM to launch project to restore degraded land in Aravalli range

In a move to combat land degradation and restore ecological balance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially launch a massive landscape restoration project in the Aravalli mountain range on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day.

Environment ministry officials confirmed on Tuesday that Modi will participate in a sapling-planting ceremony in the ridge area of South Delhi, which marks the northern edge of the Aravalli range.

The event will see the participation of chief ministers from Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Gujarat—the four states through which the Aravalli hills stretch — emphasizing the cross-state nature and importance of the initiative. Spanning approximately 700 kilometers, the Aravallis are among the world’s oldest mountain ranges and serve as a vital ecological buffer, protecting northern India from the encroaching Thar Desert.
