THE DAGAR GHARANA: A CELESTIAL INHERITANCE

The Dagar Gharana traces its musical lineage over 20 unbroken generations, spanning over five centuries Dhrupadis not merely performed but experienced, as a meditative, sacred form of devotion to the divine.

In 2003, Shabana Dagar and her brother Imraan Dagar renewed their dedication to their family’s legacy by initiating a range of impactful programs. This included the creation of educational initiatives, artist interactions, and festivals dedicated to Dhrupad and other traditional Indian art forms.

"Dhrupad is not entertainment; it is enlightenment," says Shabana Dagar, the first woman from the illustrious Dagar lineage to step into the role of a preserver and presenter of this spiritual art. "The voice, the breath, the pausethey all become one with divinity. And that is why it must be protected, practised, and passed on."

The Dagar Archives Museum stands not only as a gallery of heirlooms and historical memories, but as a living institutionholding space for recitals, dialogues, learning, and listening.
