WHEN MISSION BHASHINI was first conceived under the ministry of electronics & ITin 2018-19, it promised to bridge India’s language divide by developing speech-to-text Al models and multilingual translation tools.
Today, local players like Sarvam Al, Krutrim and the BharatGPT consortium have launched foundational AI models with support for several Indic languages. But progress in this domain has been slow due tothe lack of high-quality training datasets. This is a key challenge that the BhashiniAI mission seeks to address.
