e-NAM remains local, inter-state trade minimal

EIGHT YEARS AFTER the launch of the electronic National Agriculture Market (e-NAM), which digitally integrated over 1,400 wholesale markets, inter-state and inter-mandi trade through the platform remains negligible.
According to official sources, inter-state trade via e-NAM dropped sharply by 50% in FY25 to just ₹21 crore, compared to ₹42 crore in FY24. This decline underscores the challenges in achieving e-NAM's core objective—providing seamless, pan-India market access to farmers irrespective of their location.
Trade between mandis within the same state grew 7% to ₹1,769 crore in FY25. Meanwhile, total trade turnover on the e-NAM platform rose marginally by 2% to ₹80,262 crore in 2024-25.
