Platform open to renegotiating ICC rights at a huge mark-down

- VIVEAT SUSAN PINTO

RELIANCE-LED JIOSTAR MAY be open to renegotiating the $3-billion TV and digital media rights deal with the International Cricket Council (ICC) but will pitch for a lower transaction value, sources have told FE.

Having doubled its provision for losses in FY25 to ₹25,760 crore on the cricket deal versus the previous year, the country's largest media company has told the ICC that it may be unable to service the four-year contract (which began in 2024) for the remaining two years. The matter has assumed urgency ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka in February.

JioStar declined to comment when contacted. ICC executives were not immediately available for comment.
