THE GOVERNMENT AIMS to address surplus sugar supplies by allowing additional exports of the sweetener and diverting more sugar towards ethanol production.
It also plans to hike the minimum sale price (MSP) of sugar to protect farmers amid a glut.
The export cap may be raised from the current level of 1.5 million tonne (MT) for the 2025-26 sugar season (October-September. The move will protect farmers from any delay in sugarcane payments.
