Oppn-ruled states seek revenue protection

OPPOSITION-RULED STATES, which have also extended support to the Centre's Goods and Services Tax (GST) rate reduction plans, have demanded that all states be compensated for the likely revenue loss from the movie that is expected to benefit consumers ahead of the festival season.

On Wednesday morning, before the two-day GST Council meeting began here, ministers from eight opposition-ruled states: Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal, met over breakfast to formulate their strategy and reaffirmed their demand for revenue protection to give approval to the rate rejig.
