Banks May See Rise in Gross NPAs in FY26, Says Icra

BANKS ARE EXPECTED to see a rise in gross non-performing assets (NPAs) in the current financial year, driven by an increase in delinquencies in unsecured personal loans and a moderation in credit growth, Icra analysts said in a webinar on Tuesday.
Icra estimates the credit growth at 10.8% in FY26, slightly lower than 10.9% in FY2025. Persistent challenges in deposit mobilisation, a high credit-deposit (CD) ratio and rising stress in unsecured retail and small business loans are expected to continue weighing on the growth in advances.
