• The design story of the second coming of the first car designed in India
NOT MANY PEOPLE know that the original Tata Sierra (1991-2003) was the first car to be fully designed in India — a fact shared by Ajay Jain, the head of India Design Studio, Tata Motors, who has designed the all-new Sierra that will be launched later this year.
"It was such an iconic design that we had to take inspiration from the original, but a closer look shows that the only similarity is the name," Jain told FE.
The new Sierra was displayed in near-production form at the Auto Expo 2025 in January.
