Confusion deepens as Trump adds new obstacles for Indian, Chinese students
MANY IRANIANS ARE not going to American universities this fall. Students from Afghanistan are having trouble getting to campus.
Even students from China and India, the top two senders of international students to the US, have been flummoxed by a maze of new obstacles the Trump administration has set up to slow or deter people entering the country from abroad. Between the federal government's heightened vetting of student visas and US President Trump's travel ban, the number of international students newly enrolled in American universities seems certain to drop—by a lot. There were about a million international students studying in the US a year ago, according to figures published by the state department. Data on international student enrollment is not expected to be released until the fall. But higher education is already feeling the pain and deeply worried about the fallout.

Repatriating culture
LOST, FOUND, OR STOLEN — populations across the globe draw their histories and origins from the artifacts that the generations prior left behind. Where they come from and where they end up over the centuries are often two separate stories. Last week, Pope Leo the XIV announced that the Vatican would be returning 62 artifacts that originally belonged to a host of indigenous communities based in Canada. The recent past has seen a variety of conversations on the real heritage of artifacts and where they ought to be displayed.

We welcome the strange voice
newspapers were forged in the furnace of the freedom struggle. Not many people would have imagined that 78 years after Independence they would have to invent the phrase godi media. Even as readers and viewers desert them in the thousands, many newspapers and channels flourish thanks to government patronage.
