Innovation Is Key to India's Future: Goyal

COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY minister Piyush Goyal on Wednesday said steps are being taken to strengthen the intellectual property ecosystem and that the country's trademark filings are the sixth largest in the world.
"Our patent grants last year was about 100,000," Goyal said at the National Intellectual Property Awards ceremony. India's ranking in the Global Innovation Index has improved significantly, from 81 in 2015 to 39 in the latest ranking, he said. The minister said as people are getting confidence that patents are being granted in a record time, the enthusiasm to file for patents in India is also improving and increasing.
