BANKING SUPERVISION CAN no longer rely only on balance sheets and compliance checklists as digitisation reshapes risks, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor Swaminathan J has said, calling for a sharper focus on operational resilience, third-party dependencies and customer protection.

Speaking at the third annual global conference of the College of Supervisors in Mumbai on Friday, Swaminathan said banks could appear financially sound on paper yet remain "one incident away from severe disruption" because stability increasingly depends on technology systems, data integrity and external service providers, rather than just capital and liquidity.
