Primary sector's share in GVA declines

THE SHARE OF primary sector in the gross value added (GVA) has dropped to 19.7% in FY24, the lowest in the current GDP series (base year 2011-12), reflecting prolonged rural distress, reports Saikat Neogi.

The share of the sector which comprises agriculture, livestock, forestry, fishing and mining & quarrying was 21.7% in FY12 and touched 22.1% in FY21 during the height of the pandemic.
