Sharp rise in share of trained workforce
Financial Express Ahmedabad
|February 01, 2025
A SHARP INCREASE in the share of trained workforce over the past five years, a tiered approach towards training the current workforce in AI tech, and preparing India's youth for the global talent demand are the key skilling trends highlighted in the Economic Survey 2024-25.
The survey said that over 65% of the workforce in India has received no form of vocational training. However, despite the huge skill deficit in the current workforce, the situation is improving across rural and urban areas. For example, as per PLFS (periodic labour force survey) report 2023-24, 34.7% of the workforce has some form of vocational or technical training by FY24, this is a huge jump from just 11.3% in FY19.
