India Opens Door to Chinese Tourists After 5 Yr Gap
Financial Express Ahmedabad
|July 24, 2025
As part of the ongoing efforts to repair bilateral ties, India on Wednesday said it would resume issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals from Thursday, after a gap of five years.
This comes almost a month after resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra on June 30.
India had suspended issuance of tourist visas to Chinese nationals in 2020, in the wake of the Covid pandemic, but the restrictions continued in view of the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh that began in May 2020.
In a notification on Wednesday, the Indian Embassy in Beijing said Chinese nationals could apply for tourist visas from Thursday, and explained the required procedure, including the documents that have to be submitted at the Indian visa application centers in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
