PALACE CHIEF’S REGRET’ OVER AXING OF BOSS AFTER 12-MATCH WINLESS RUN
PATRICK VIEIRA was this morning sacked by Crystal Palace, following a run of 12 games without a win.
Palace chairman Steve Parish said it was a “difficult decision” and one taken with “enormous regret”, but the club felt change was necessary to avoid relegation.
A 1-0 defeat at rivals Brighton on Wednesday was the final straw and Vieira has been axed with Palace sat 12th, just three points above the relegation places. The club say the search for a new manager is already underway.
In the interim, Palace could look to bring in Shaun Derry, who was dismissed as a coach earlier this season but is on gardening leave. An update was expected this afternoon.
Vieira’s backroom staff Osian Roberts, Kristian Wilson and Said Aigoun have also left, but goalkeeping coach Dean Kiely remains.
