Showers and cooler weather after hottest day of the year

TEMPERATURES in London will cool over the coming week after the UK saw its hottest day of the year so far, the Met Office has said.
The temperature reached 33C in the capital yesterday- and as high as 34.8C in Cambridge-marking 2024's hottest day yet, after the previous record of 32C at Kew Gardens and Heathrow on Tuesday, July 30.
But the hot period in the south and east is being replaced by a "westerly airflow" for the UK which will bring showers, longer spells of rain, and a return to more average temperatures for the time of year.
A yellow heat health alert for the East and West Midlands, East of England, South East, South West, North West, and London, issued by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), will remain in force until 9 am tomorrow.
