Sheeran tells trial: I'd be an idiot to rip off a song and then perform it live

ED SHEERAN said he would have been "quite an idiot" to rip off Marvin Gaye classic Let's Get it on and then perform it for thousands of his fans, as he gave evidence in a New York courtroom.
The singer-songwriter is on trial for alleged copyright infringement with his 2014 hit Thinking Out Loud and is accused of effectively confessing when he played both songs side-by-side at a concert in Zurich. But giving evidence, Sheeran said it was not the "smoking gun" that his opponents in the case suggested.
"If I had done what you are accusing me of doing, I would be quite an idiot to stand on a stage in front of 20,000 people and do that," he told the Manhattan federal court.
