KEEPER SAYS HE RESPONDED IN BEST WAY TO GIFTING GOAL, AS ARTETA CLAIMS HE IS LUCKY’ TO HAVE HIM
DAVID RAYA believes he showed his character by responding to his howler against Tottenham to help Arsenal see out victory in yesterday's dramatic north London derby.
Arsenal beat Spurs 3-2 to stay top of the Premier League and ahead of Manchester City, who are a point behind with a game in hand after winning at Nottingham Forest yesterday.
The Gunners were 3-0 up at half-time and cruising to victory when Raya gifted Tottenham a lifeline.
The Arsenal goalkeeper passed the ball straight to Cristian Romero, who scored, and a late Heung-min Son penalty set up a nervy finish.
Mikel Arteta praised Raya for recovering his composure and claiming a series of late crosses, with the Arsenal manager saying his side are "lucky" to have a goalkeeper like that.
The pair hugged at the full-time whistle, and Raya said: "Mistakes are part of football and you learn from them.
