London stands for all that Hamas hates, so think before you excuse terror
Evening Standard
|October 10, 2023
IT’S not surprising to see small groups on the streets of London celebrating Hamas’s attack on Israel. London is open house when it comes to opinions and beliefs, however reprehensible or idiotic they may be. That’s one of the best things about living here.
It won’t be surprising either when there is a spike of attacks on British Jews (apparently, being anti-Israeli and anti-Semitic are “completely” different things).
The reason this crisis matters for London is that the city represents everything Hamas despises and those who delight in these attacks as an expression of righteous liberation (900 dead Israelis and counting) should ask themselves what on earth it is they are supporting.
Justifying the actions of Hamas is a heinous example of moral relativism, even by the standards of those pre-disposed to such hypocrisy. London’s multi-culturalism, tolerance, freedom of speech, religion, expression and the rights of minorities are all anathema to Hamas and their fellow travellers.
Even worse than Hamas itself, by supporting these attacks you are doing the work of the Iranian theocracy that fosters and funds it. This activism often manifests itself in those with little or no knowledge of the situation beyond the easy idealism of a Year 13 common room.
