THE royal family today led tributes to comedian and broadcaster Paul O’Grady after he died “unexpectedly but peacefully” aged 67.
The Birkenhead-born star, who rose to fame as his drag queen alter-ego Lily Savage, hosted chat shows as well as Blind Date, Blankety Blank and his award-winning For The Love of Dogs. He was joined by the Queen Consort last year in a special one-off episode of the show marking 160 years of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
A Buckingham Palace source said Camilla was “deeply saddened” at the death of the presenter whose “warm heart and infectious humour lit up the lives of so many”. The royal family tweeted that O’Grady had “worked closely with Her Majesty in support of Battersea, providing lots of laughter and many waggy-tailed memories.”
