CAPTAIN ODEGAARD PREDICTS A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT’ AS ARSENAL FIGHT TO END THEIR EUROPEAN HOODOO
MARTIN ODEGAARD has called on his teammates to forget Arsenal’s past failures in Europe and make their own history tonight.
Arsenal face Porto at Emirates Stadium looking to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.
The Gunners are trailing 1-0 from the first leg after conceding a winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time in Portugal three weeks ago.
Arsenal have been knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage on seven consecutive occasions, but Odegaard is confident this side can end that hoodoo.
“We have to focus on ourselves and we have to focus on what we can do, and the history we can do,” said the Arsenal captain. “That is our goal.
“We are Arsenal, we want to win trophies — and we want to fight on the biggest stage and play the biggest games. This is a great chance to show that.
“I think you can’t think too much about the past. Obviously, you want to keep building your own history.
