QMU demands end to neglect of Osteoporosis
Edinburgh Evening News
|October 25, 2025
Osteoporosis affects more than 500 million people worldwide, including approximately 250,00 people in Scotland
Queen Margaret University is supporting a new drive to improve the care and treatment of Osteoporosis.
The university marked this week's World Osteoporosis Day by renewing its pledge to address what it sees as one the most pressing - and yet under-recognised - public health challenges of our time.
It is now backing calls by the International Osteoporosis Foundation for a collective response to end “global neglect” in osteoporosis care and treatment.
Osteoporosis means “porous bone”. It is a condition where bones become thinner, less dense and weaker, leading to an increased risk of fractures. It affects more than 500 million people worldwide, including approximately 250,00 people in Scotland.
