For nearly four decades Isa Conlin has organised a Christmas dinner for the elderly community in Rosewell and Bonnyrigg, bringing together hundreds of residents each year.

- by Neil Johnstone

The origins of the annual Christmas dinner go back to the 1980s, when Isa was a 'home helper' at St Matthews Church in Rosewell making teas and coffees at funeral receptions.

Isa later started catering for events at the local miner's club when one day she was asked if she would help organise a Christmas dinner for elderly residents. And now the annual event in St Matthews Church hall is a calendar highlight for the village.

But after organising the community event for over 35 years, Isa is stepping down this year and hopes to enjoy future events as a guest.

Speaking to the Evening News, Isa, 81, said: "I love seeing the joy on people's faces and see people getting together for the day.
