An extension to Edinburgh's Christmas festival has been denied planning permission over concerns about the impact it may have on Princes Street Gardens

- by Joe Sullivan

The festival has been refused permission to expand its footprint for this year's event over concerns about damage in the gardens.

Festival organisers Unique Assembly had hoped to add eight new market stalls and two new attractions in the eastern part of the gardens.

But councillors voted on Wednesday to side with a recommendation by council officers who said the expansion would have an 'adverse impact' on the landscape and the area.
