The Jambos boss was left made up for his number two goalkeeper and talisman Lawrence Shankland, who both made key Scotland contributions on international duty, as victory over Denmark sealed passage to the World Cup next year. Attentions now turn to the domestic scene for top of the Premiership Hearts, who travel to McInnes's former side, Aberdeen, tomorrow.
Who goes with Steve Clarke's side to America, Canada and Mexico is now a live debate, and German shot-stopper Alexander Schwolow is currently ahead of Scotland's number one at Hearts. McInnes was asked if he needs to have a conversation with 42-year-old Gordon over his Jambos status, with a World Cup to bear in mind, and a January transfer window factor to consider.
He said: "I think Craig's done himself no harm. He's showing people he's still here, he's still about and he's capable of producing big moments. There's some of those saves he makes, I think he still could make when he's 50!
"He's just a talented, talented boy and he's got real determination. His determination will be to make sure he goes to the World Cup in a good place and in an ideal world for him, he'll be hoping he's played regular minutes.
