PDSA Vet Nurse Shauna Walsh answers all your pet questions
-
PDSA advice on best care gor your pet.
Dear PDSA, my hamster, Nibbles, is only ever active at night, is this normal? Georgie.
Hi Georgie, hamsters can be active during the day in the wild, but when living as our pets, they generally prefer to be nocturnal. They are active, busy animals, who travel for miles each night when given the opportunity, so they will need lots of space and interest to fulfil this need for adventure. Hamsters need a large enclosure with lots of activities and toys, including a large (well oiled) wheel for enrichment and vast, interesting space where he can explore and forage.
