Action plan to occupy empty houses
Edinburgh Evening News
|December 04, 2025
The Scottish Government launched a new “matchmake” portal to tackle the housing emergency in a bid to match owners of empty homes with potential buyers.
-
The online portal is hosted by the Scottish Empty Homes Partnership and has been developed as part of a £2 million investment this year to address the housing emergency.
It is hoped it will “accelerate the pace and numbers of empty homes that are brought back into use” across Scotland.
Local pilots of the “matchmaker scheme” allowed owners of empty properties to upload details through a website.
First time buyers, families, developers or local authorities, can then make purchasing inquiries.
