HOPES ACCESS WILL BRING WATERWAY BACK INTO USE AFTER 100 YEARS
A NEW, state-of-the-art slipway that aims to bring a disused waterway back into regular use has opened to the public after a year in the making.
One-hundred years after commercial barges stopped working on the waterway, Louth Canal which stretches all the way to Tetney Lock and eventually Humberston - is now accessible for use by paddleboarders, kayakers and canoers thanks to a free slipway accessible to the public from dawn until dusk, with a free car park alongside it.
On Sunday, May 25, members of the public were invited to the official opening of the Austen Fen Slipway on Fen Lane, Louth, close to the Grade II listed Canalside Warehouse.
The special event included live music, family activities, refreshments, and the chance for paddleboarders to do what they love in a new waterway.
