Meet the team who battle to keep homes powered
A spotlight has been shone on a team of engineers who work on live power lines in Dumfries and Galloway to prevent communities from losing power during the harshest weather winter throws at us.
To see the skill and resilience required to keep the power flowing and the lights on, award winning TV presenter Jennifer Reoch joined forces with SP Energy Networks to meet the “Storm Shielders” in the region who go above and beyond working on live power lines.
At the 'live site, she also spoke with the district general manager, Stuart McConnachie, on camera to discuss the dangerous job the linesmen do and how keeping the overhead lines live prevents communities from going off power during the harshest weather.
It is for a new series of videos with SP Energy Networks' Storm Shielders, which will take viewers "behind the scenes" to celebrate these unsung heroes.
The series will shine a spotlight on the people, technology, and teamwork that keeps electricity running through the most challenging of winter weather.
And that includes Dumfries and Galloway's specialist Live Line Hands On team, highly trained linesmen who carry out essential maintenance and repairs on overhead power lines - without switching off the electricity supply.
