Big slice of success for butchers

The Scottish Traditional Steak Pie Champion crown has been won by a Dumfries and Galloway small family-run butchers.
S. Cronnie Family Butchers in Newton Stewart is now a crust above some of the giants in Scottish pie-making.
Thrilled owner, 52-year-old Steven Cronnie has revealed that they secured the national title on their first ever competition outing - beating nearly 100 other entries from all across Scotland in the Scottish Craft Butchers Awards 2025.
Winning the South West regional championship before going on to secure the national title, he said: "To be able to boast The Best Steak Pie in Scotland is quite something for a wee rural butcher."
"This is the first time we've ever entered a competition and to beat some of the best-known butchers in Scotland is a huge achievement.
"I've been making steak pies all my working life and we always reckoned ours was good but to have it judged the best in Scotland is just phenomenal - we're proud as punch, it's unbelievable.
