Big opening for Folkestone Academy's new skatepark

TOP UK riders from Skateboard GB showed off their talent at an event to officially open Folkestone Academy's new skatepark last Saturday (May 10). The special event invited all ages and abilities to attend, with two local skate schools offering free lessons, prizes offered for the best tricks and jam, and a DJ set and food trucks.

The skatepark was completed in September last year, after six weeks of construction work, and will act as a feeder for the nearby F51 skatepark and climbing facility.
Folkestone Academy hopes that it will offer young people a safe and controlled environment to develop their skills, build confidence, and increase physical activity levels.
The school also hopes the park will encourage young people to consider active travel options and improve their health and wellbeing.
The park will be used at lunchtime, after school, and for Saturday morning clubs; it is also being made available for managed use by the wider community.
