Scouts given sapling from iconic felled tree

THE 161st Derby (Hilton) Scout Group says it is honoured to have been chosen by the National Trust to receive one of 49 saplings grown from the Sycamore Gap tree, as part of its Trees of Hope initiative.

They will be holding a dedication ceremony at 1pm on Saturday next to the Hilton Scout and Guide Hut.

The tree, which once stood proudly beside Hadrian's Wall in Northumberland, captured hearts across the nation before it was tragically felled in 2023.

From that loss came new life. The National Trust collected seeds from the original tree, nurturing them into saplings to be shared with communities across the UK as living symbols of hope, renewal, and connection with nature.
