MP silent on bowing to 'quit second role' pleas

CITY COUNCILLOR HAD SAID HE WOULDN'T BE 'HANGING AROUND FOR TOO LONG'
A DERBYSHIRE MP has refused to provide an update on his role as a Derby city councillor amid calls for him to resign.
John Whitby is currently the Labour MP for the Derbyshire Dales constituency having won the parliamentary seat at last year's General Election.
Mr Whitby is also a serving Derby city councillor for the Mackworth and New Zealand ward. He has held that seat since the last local elections in Derby in 2023. However, he has previously admitted that doing both roles was a “real struggle”.
It has been previously reported that more than 300 people signed a petition calling for the resignation of Councillor Whitby.
