Medals for Molly and Valentina are highlights for Derby AC at champs

GOLD medals for 800m runners Molly Hudson and Valentina Costa were the highlights of some strong performances by Derby Athletic Club athletes in late-summer track and field national competitions, competing against world-class athletes.

Members were in action at three weekend meetings at the impressive Alexander Stadium in Birmingham - the England Under-20 and Senior Championships, the British Championships and the England Age Group Championships.

In the England champs, held over three days at the end of July, Hudson ran two minutes 10 seconds to triumph in the senior 800m, while Costa took gold in the under-23 race with 2.11.38.

Levi Heath and Ellis Cameron featured in the under-20 400m heats, with Cameron qualifying for the semi on day one and then the final, in which he finished fourth in 49.03 seconds.

Caitlin Hadfield, still an under-17, ran alongside under-20 athletes at 400m and made it through heats and her semi and posted a personal best of 55.94 on the way.
