Library move is scrapped due to costs and delays

AN agreed plan to move a Derbyshire library to new modern premises is set to be scrapped due to costs and delays.

Last July, Derbyshire County Council agreed to move Clay Cross Library from its current home in Kenning Park to a new extension to the adult community education centre in Market Street, which is approaching completion.

However, the Reform UK administration is now set to drop this plan due to delays in the new extension and says funding to support the wholesale improvement of the current library or adult education centre is likely to be insufficient.

A cabinet report on the library strategy update states: "The existing Clay Cross Library, although not in the immediate town centre, does benefit from its park location, with two adjacent car parks and attracts around 12,600 visits per year.
